Kolkata to get AIIMS-like institute

West Bengal is likely to have an AIIMS-like medical institute to be established at Kalyani, about 50 km north of Kolkata. Union Minister of State for Health and Family Welfare, Sudip Bandopadhyay said that the institute will be set up on the lines of AIIMS at Kalyani in West Bengal soon.

Apart from West Bengal, such medical institutes were proposed to be set up in Odisha, Bihar, Chhattisgarh and Rajasthan initially.

“We will set up a medical institute on the lines of AIIMS at Kalyani in West Bengal soon,”

Union Minister of State for Health and Family Welfare, Sudip Bandopadhyay said while inaugurating a two-day conference on healthcare organised by the Indian Chamber of Commerce.

20 more IIITs coming your way

On August 17, 2012, the government approved a bill seeking to give IIITs administrative autonomy and enable setting up of 20 more such institutes. Setting up of each of these IIITs is expected to cost Rs 128 crore. With the centre bearing 50 per cent of the cost and the concerned state government 35 per cent, the remaining 15 per cent will be borne by industry partners. Currently, there are four IIITs funded by the central government.

Three new IIITs in Assam, Tripura and Rajasthan

The HRD ministry has given its approval to set up swank new Indian Institutes of Information Technology (IIIT) in Assam, Tripura and Rajasthan. These new IIITs will be established by the ministry in collaboration with the states and industry participants. The three upcoming IIITs are part of 20 new self-sustaining, research-led IIITs that will be established under the public-private-partnership model.

20 new IIITs

might approve the establishment of 20 more Indian Institutes of Information Technology (IIITs) in a meeting being held today (June 5), in Delhi. The ministry received proposals from 15 states to set up these institutes. Approval has already been given to Rajasthan, Assam, Himachal Pradesh and Tripura to set up an institute each. The other approvals will be revealed soon.
