Career in Gemology

Gemstones occupy a very important position in the jewelry industry. In fact in some parts of the world, gemstones are considered to be of great importance from the religious and astrological points of view. Now, people have become quality conscious and therefore whenever a person visits the jewelry shop, the first question he would ask is about the quality or as commonly called as ‘genuineness’ of the gem stone. Here comes the need for a qualified gemologist who evaluates and certifies the quality of gems.

The qualities of the gems are decided by grading the gems using various techniques. These techniques are taught in the Gemological Institute of India, Mumbai and in some of the universities which conduct specialized courses in gemology. The person who wants to pursue his education in gemology must have minimum qualification of 10+2 level schooling or he must be a graduate in any discipline. For example Gemological Institute of India conducts short term courses lasting about six days to nine weeks. Ways to choose right Correspondence Course

The concept of correspondence course has given new impetus to those who are unable to attend the campus schools or colleges to continue their studies. Correspondence course is particularly helpful for in service personnel and even for persons who for various other reasons are unable to physically attend the classes.  The unique feature of correspondence course being although the teacher and taught are separated by distance yet they are connected to each other with the help of internet. The teacher sends the lessons through internet, conducts video classes through internet and the student submits his assignment through internet and many times even the examination is conducted online. Interestingly, some of the professional courses like nursing are also conducted online! As a matter of reminisces, before the advent of internet, lessons and assignments were sent by post and the examination was being conducted at various designated places.

Correspondence course has now become the order of the day and now these courses are available in innumerable disciplines. The question is choosing the course that is suitable for you. Basically, the course you choose must be such that it should help you in your preferred career. Therefore before you choose a course go through the course content as also the syllabus. Now study engineering through distance learning

In an effort to help students who cannot pursue technical education full-time, the government is working on a plan to introduce engineering courses through open and distance learning system. A committee set up by the AICTE will be setting the required standards for implementing the programme. The move has been initiated following recommendations by a committee headed by noted academician N R Madhava Menon.

High Cut-Off Marks is Due to Demand-Supply Mismatch: Sibal

HRD Minister Kapil Sibal has said that the 100 per cent cut-off marks this year, for admission in certain streams in Delhi University is due to the demand-supply dynamics and a solution lies in expanding the educational infrastructure. Mr. Sibal said that the demand is far greater than supply and thus the cut-off is bound to be high. The HRD minister also asked that if there is one Sri Ram College of Commerce and everybody wants admission there, what solution can be given to students.

UGC Decided To Ban Physiotherapy Courses Through Distance Learning

UGC has banned physiotherapy course through distance learning mode. As the subject has large modules of practical teaching and cannot be imparted through distance learning mode, so it should be taught face to face. In its notice, UGC put forward that some of the universities are offering certificate, diploma, graduation and post graduation courses in physiotherapy through distance learning mode. Citing a previous order of Delhi High Court, UGC said that the court had held that professional courses should not be imparted through distance mode.
