MIT on top at QS World University Rankings 2012-13
Massachusetts Institute of Technology (MIT) takes the top spot as Indian frustration continues with the release of QS World University Rankings 2012-13. India remains the only BRICS nation without a university in the Top 200 of the QS World Rankings 2012-13. Two of the three leading Indian institutions, IIT Delhi (212) and IIT Kanpur (278), have improved on their 2011 position. Yet the comparison with other BRICS nations remains unflattering.
CBSE to conduct first NEET for MBBS, BDS on May 5
CBSE will conduct the first-ever common entrance test for admission to MBBS and BDS courses across the country on May 5, 2013. The National Eligibility-cum-Entrance Test (NEET) will cater to admissions in all the government and private medical and dental colleges in the country on the basis of its merit list. Over 10 lakh students are expected to take the examination next year.
Financial Times survey ranks IIM-A among top 10 global B-schools
As per the Financial Times (FT) Masters in Management 2012 Rankings, IIM-A is once again the only Indian institute to be ranked among top 10 global B-schools. The institute was ranked for its flagship post graduate programme in management (PGP). However, IIM-A slipped three places from rank seven last year to rank 10 in 2012 FT rankings.

IIMs will now award post-graduate management degrees rather than offering diplomas
Union Minister for Human Resource Development, Kapil Sibal has announced that IIMs will now start awarding post-graduate management degrees rather than offering diplomas. IIMs have been demanding this for long as diploma is not an internationally recognized qualification. The announcement not just cheered up MBA aspirants, but also attracted support from academicians and experts alike.

New ‘Integrated Reasoning’ section in GMAT from June 2012
The Graduate Management Admission Council is launching Next-Gen GMAT,
the tenth version of the GMAT exam, from June 2012. The new GMAT exam pattern will have a new ‘Integrated Reasoning (IR)’ section, which will replace an essay from the ‘Analytical Writing Assessment (AWA)’ section. The new exam pattern will gauge a candidate’s analysis and interpretation skills, which are much in demand by business schools worldwide for the concurrent management programmes they offer.

IIMs CAT to test knowledge too, not just aptitude
The CAT format will be changed to test the candidate’s knowledge too and will not just limit on aptitude. In the new-format test, students will get 140 minutes to answer 60 questions spread equally over two sections, down from the earlier three. Candidates cannot move on to the next section till 70 minutes are over, unlike last year, when they had 135 minutes to attempt the same number of questions without any section-wise time restriction. The section-wise time allocation will end race against time in the exam which always puts speed at a premium.

CAT 2011 Highlights
Indian Institutes of Management (IIMs) have announced the Common Admission Test 2011 (CAT 2011) highlights. Prometric, a provider of market-leading test development and test delivery solutions is IIMs’ partner in developing and delivering CAT 2011. The first section will consist of Quantitative Ability & Data Interpretation. Whereas, the second section will focus on Verbal Ability & Logical Reasoning. These two sections will be implemented sequentially with separate time limits.

The examination will be 140 minutes. Within each section, candidates will have 70 minutes to answer 30 questions which will have an on-screen countdown timer.
