MIT on top at QS World University Rankings 2012-13
Massachusetts Institute of Technology (MIT) takes the top spot as Indian frustration continues with the release of QS World University Rankings 2012-13. India remains the only BRICS nation without a university in the Top 200 of the QS World Rankings 2012-13. Two of the three leading Indian institutions, IIT Delhi (212) and IIT Kanpur (278), have improved on their 2011 position. Yet the comparison with other BRICS nations remains unflattering.

After class 10 what!!
Consider this before you walk into a stream after school
Students completing xth standard are often confused about selecting a career path. Selecting subjects after xth standard is not an easy task. For a successful career one must plan the future carefully and must have a workable plan to support. Exploring the available career options, knowing about oneself and the capability to take right decisions and ambitions, future goals are some of the factors needed for a successful career planning.
Seek help through seminars
There are various seminars held through which one can know about the available career options and get in touch with the respective institutes. One should have a clear perspective about their goals and accordingly seek help from teachers, parents and elders.
Check your aptitude
Aptitude, grades and marks must be considered while selecting a stream. It is often advised that students take aptitude tests through which students learn more about their skills, strengths, weaknesses and intelligence in various fields. Aptitude tests turn out to be very useful while selecting any stream. It helps evaluate one’s personality and provides the examinee with clarity which they would have never thought of or it may also tell them whether the profession one is interested to take up would suit their personality or not. It helps the students to list the suitable career options and also to select one of them.
Practice them for free
Nowadays there are various aptitude tests available for free on the internet for students to take up. CBSE has also introduced two and a half hour long aptitude test which is designed specifically for Indian students. This test may assess the student in following areas :
• Art Aptitude
• Numerical Aptitude
• Behavioural science aptitude
• Social Aptitude
• Scientific Aptitude
• And, Interest Profile
One must also consider the personal interests while electing a stream. One’s interest when matched with the potential career gives fruitful results.
For one’s mental satisfaction and peace, one must select a career according to their interests as it may give them pleasure while working and they may enjoy doing their work which may lead to a happy, peaceful and contended life.
Also , It is seen often that parents push their kids to join a particular stream after Xth which should not be done as it may curb the child’s interest and the potential with which he can work in the field he is interested in . One should remember that ‘Birds only fly high when they are free in sky and not when they are caged !’ Parents should encourage them to take decisions and should support them whenever needed and should also advice on the pros and cons of taking up a stream.
Be clear of what you want
• Which subjects interest you the most!
• Which subjects one is afraid or hates the most and feels that it is boring and is not interested in!
• What are one’s ambitions and interests!
So when you choose a subject do keep all these points in mind and all the best!

CCE Debate – Is CCE Good or bad?
After the implementation of CCE (Continuous and Comprehensive Evaluation) by CBSE, there’s a lot of confusion among schools, teachers, students as well as administrators. The system was started to minimize the exam stress. But now, every day the students are the victim of undue exam stress. There are more evaluations than learni
ng. Students are continuously stressed as there will be exams almost eveyday.
At the same time CBSE is doing away with exams at the Board level creating the situation more laissez-faire, There is no uniformity in evaluation from school to school.
The schools are giving plenty of A grades to students most of them donot deserve it. They pass out Class X with gorgeous marks and get admission in the stream of their ‘choice’ . Class XI will turn out to be extremely difficult for them. They waste 2 years or more – failing in class XI and XII.
CCE is not suitable for a country like India where there are overcrowded classroom ranging from 50 to 65 students per class.
The teachers are also overburdened with lot of clerical work – assigning and tabulating the CCE scores, making reports, evaluating — all these at the cost of the time to be spent of preparation for real classroom teaching.
Is it not time to think on whether or not to continue with the system of CCE?
What do you think?
Raise your voice. Comment on and let the authorities rethink!

Central Board of Secondary Education (CBSE) schools will teach their students to speak right.
CBSE has asked its schools to train their students in speaking and listening skills to improve their diction and communication skills.
The CBSE has proposed a formal testing of speaking and listening skills in the form of Formative Assessments (FAs), in English at secondary and senior secondary levels from the academic year 2013-14.
In its latest circular to all the schools affiliated with the central board, the CBSE has envisaged that all language skills need to be integrated into the school English language curriculum.
The circular says, “In today’s world, where national and international boundaries have no real meaning for the global citizen, the English language has acquired the role of a crucial medium of communication. It has become the language for knowledge seeker as we move towards a knowledge-based economy,’’

CBSE Class XI Results show sharp decline since the introduction of CCE
The results of Class XI is shamefully low since the introduction of CCE in classes up to class X. The CCE ensures pass of every student. It is further emphasized that the student should get admission in the same school. This criteria make the students less responsible and they get good percentage in class X without much knowledge expected of that level.
The students mainly get good grades in formative assessments in which most of the activities are performed in groups. Almost all students of the group are getting almost identical marks and grades. So, even a weak student gets good grades because he is part of the group. These grades scored by him ensures his admission to science group in class XI. Only when the result of Class XI comes he realizes that he is not fit for the science group (or any other group he has chosen).
The teachers of class XI are more worried where the administration wants 100% result out of these students with little aptitude towards the subject. It is high time that the system be reviewed and ensure that only students with aptitude towards science steam come in Science group as well as other streams.
You responses in this regard are welcome. All students and teachers as well as parents are requested to take part in this discussion. Post your views and responses as comments to this post.
